How many times have you heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words"? While we looked at the importance of words for some people on Monday this week, for others, they will more easily receive our love if we do something to show them.
A helping hand can make the world of difference to some people. The fact that you have taken the time to notice a need that they have and eliminate a task that they need to get done can really show that you care. Jesus spoke regularly about meeting needs and the early church would pool resources and skills to make sure that everyone had what they needed and was well cared for.
There are plenty of ways we can serve each other in love. We can help children with a chore they find it difficult or take time to teach them a new skill. We can offer to babysit at a particular time of day so a parent can run an errand or have some time to themselves. We can help parents by doing a household chore without being asked. We can help a colleague with a task they find difficult or dull. We can fix something that is broken, or make a meal, or help with a large DIY project.
We all have skills we can offer to serve someone to show that we care about them. Take time to evaluate your God-given giftings and think about the needs that the people on your slips have, and see how you might be able to serve in love today.
If you have any stories of acts of service where you felt loved or showed love, please do share them - we can all use the inspiration!
To any of the Allsorts team reading this : your service every week as we try new things and expect more of you and you just get on with it smiling and working your socks off - that makes me feel loved. And I know for sure our mums went away feeling loved from your service today. Love you all! X
