Day 3: The first priority...

Love 40 days is all about learning to love each other.  We choose to do this because Jesus told us to and as followers of Jesus we must pay attention to the commands that He gave us.  But while we are spending this time concentrating on the way in which we love others, it is important that we don't neglect our first love.  In John 13:34 Jesus commands us to love others, but in response to the question of the greatest commandment of Moses, Jesus replied: "You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment." Matthew 22:37.

Therefore, take some time today to concentrate on loving God, however that might work best for you.  In devoting yourself to loving God (as Rick explained to us so well on Sunday), you will be better equipped to love others, including the person whose name you pick today.

For the kids:
We are spending these 40 days loving other people and that is really important because Jesus told us that we have to do this as His followers.  But Jesus also reminded us how important it is to love God first: "You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment." (Matthew 22:37)  Can you spend some time today showing God that you love Him?  You could write Him a letter, draw Him a picture, sing Him a song or spend time telling Him how wonderful you think He is.
