However you feel about the celebrations today, the world is talking about love. But not in the way that we are here...
Maybe you are thrilled with your gifts from a loved one, but maybe you didn't receive a card, and seeing hearts everywhere today makes you feel lonelier than ever. Maybe you have someone to celebrate romantic love with, maybe you don't. Whatever Valentine's Day means to you, here's the important thing to remember today: "we love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19). Without God's love there would be no other love at all and whatever else is happening today you have and will always have God's love.
Whether or not you received a card today to tell you that somebody thinks you are special - you did receive a whole book of love declarations written just for you. The Bible details God's love for you on every single page. Here are a few places you could look at to remind yourself of this:
- Exodus 34:6
- 1 Kings 8:23
- Psalm 52:8-9
- Psalm 136
- Romans 8:31-39
Do you have any other favourite verses that remind you just how much God loves you? If so, please do post them in the comments below and share the love today!
For the kids:
Today is Valentine's Day. This day is used by people - usually romantic couples - to celebrate the love that they share and to tell each other that they are special. But the Bible tells us in 1 John 4:19 that "we love because he first loved us."
Think about the people who love you the most in the world and how that makes you feel. And then think about this - God loves you even more than they do. God loves you so much more than you can even begin to understand. He gave you a whole book - the Bible - to tell you how much He loves you. Try to take time to read a Bible story together today, from whichever Bible or Bible story book that your family use, and ask God to show you a glimpse of just how big His love for you really is.
A verse that always makes me smile is Zephaniah 3:17 - "The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." How incredible that Almighty God would delight in us and sing over us. It is such a tender verse and never fails to bring joy to my heart.
